Law Explorers

The Gwinnett County Bar Association sponsors a Venturing program, Law Explorers. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

Law Explorers meet monthly from September to May. Participants should check this page prior to the meetings for the most up-to-date information about the location and topic of the meeting.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday October 08, 2008

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 8, 2008.

Hello, everyone! We are absolutely ecstatic about the turnout that we had at our last meeting, and we hope to see at least as many at our next meeting, which will be at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Dr, Lawrenceville, GA 30045, in courtroom 1-E. Our agenda will include watching and discussing another segment of the BSA-provided video about inappropriate sexual conduct and situations involving teens. Additionally, we will be hearing from the Honorable Tom Davis, Judge, Superior Court, Gwinnett County, who will talk to us about his career in the law, including as a military JAG officer, as an assistant district attorney involved in high profile cases, and as a judge here in Gwinnett County. We also will need to attend to organization/committee business (e.g., committee meetings/discussions, group discussions of matters referred out of committees, etc.), especially with regard to such topics as the kinds of programs, presentations, and activities that we want to be working on lining up for the year, and fine-tuning the organization and operation of our committees. With so much to do, I would again like to extend our meeting time so that we start 1 hour earlier and end ½ hour later than usual (i.e., we will meet from 6 pm until 9 pm this time around), at least for those who are able to be there for the extended time (those who can’t are welcome to join us when they’re able to get there and stay with us until they have to leave). Remember to check the website as we get closer to October 8th, 2008 to make sure that you don’t miss any last minute changes. As I’ve mentioned, we’re very excited about this year, and we look forward to seeing you on the 8th!

PS: I would like to meet with the officers before the October 8th meeting to discuss a few ideas, if possible. If y’all would please get in touch with me so that we can try to set something up, I would appreciate it.
